Subject: [ferrethealth] Swollen Bloody Vulva
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

Hello all

I have a 7 year old ferret, Tess, who is bi-lateral since last October.
She's been absolutely fine without meds. Thursday, she had a partial
pancreatectomy. A few days after being diagnosed insulinomic (2 weeks prior to the
surgery,) she had some bright red blood in her poops. The vet indicated that it was
near the end of the colon as it was red and not black or dark. I might also
mention that she has not every had normal poops since I've had her (6 years.)
She's always had loose seedy poops and we sort of made an assumption that
she'd had ECE at some time in the first year of her life. She is a rescue.

I had him take a look at the colon when he was inside her and he found
absolutely nothing out of order. I've noticed since she's been home and
recuperating that she's been peeing a lot. Today her vulva is swollen and slightly
bloody along with a slightly bloody and swollen anus.

Seeing as it's Sunday (of course things always happen on a weekend!) I'm
asking if anyone as any thoughts on this. She does not seem in pain, is eating
well and wants out to play. Her incision is healing beautifully.

She currently is on .5ml of carafete twice a day along with .25ml of
amoxicillin twice a day...all to be done for 10 days. Routine after surgery with my
vet.

Thanks so much.
