Subject: [ferrethealth] Nerve Sheath Tumor/path report/cancer?
Maybe someone here can help me decipher what it all means :-)
Microscopic: The multi-nodular mass is composed of plump spindle-shaped
cells with blunt ended to tapered elliptical nuclei arranged in intersecting
bundles, with a few vague storiform, whorls and tactoid like structures. The
mitotic index is low, approximately 3 per 10 high power fields. The tumor
appears to be narrowly excised, with deep and lateral surgical margins
approximately 0.5 mm wide.
Diagnosis: Mass, right shoulder area: Peripheral nerve sheath tumor, low
grade, narrowly excised.
Comment: Peripheral nerve sheath tumors are locally infiltrative and have a
high incidence of focal recurrence. The matastatic risk is low.
Thank you,
Mary
