Subject: [ferrethealth] Distemper & Rabies Shots

It's about that time for my ferrets to get their annual rabies and distempe=
r shots. The last two years one of my males had a terrible reaction to one=
of the shots. The first year I waited in the vet's office and there was no=
reaction in the office. On the way home in the car, he vomited and revived=
rather quickly. Last year I waited in the vets office after the shots to =
see if any of them would have a reaction. None happened in the office. My=
little male started vomiting and had labored breathing about half a block =
from the office. This time it was worse then the previous year. The vet ma=
naged to bring him back and he has been fine since but I really thought we =
would lose him. Dr. thought it was a reaction to the distemper shot and sa=
id next year we would not give distemper to him. My question is, what risk=
are we taking by my ferret not having distemper protection? Is there some=
thing we can do to try to prevent this reaction to this shot? He just turn=
ed 3 years old recently. =
