Subject: [ferrethealth] RE: Distemper & Rabies Shots

There is recent evidence in both canines and felines that vaccinations are not necessary every year for every pet.

There are a few questions that need to be addressed here though.

First, was your vet using Ferret approved vaccines? The vaccines made for dog and cats are more likely to cause a severe allergic reaction in ferrets.

Secondly, you need to be more sure about which vaccine is causing the reaction so that you are sure it is not the one your ferret is about to recieve.

You can have your vet give your ferret some anti-histimines ahead of time to try and lessen the reaction, but ultimatly this is at the discression of your vet.

But, my advice would be to speak with your vet about how necessary the vacination really is.

Remember, the vaccine isn't helpful when your dead.

Good luck!
