A little more info, she's 7 1/2 yrs old and we also have a younger female.
In regards to Insulinoma:
Sorry if I wasn't clear earlier (I had a lot of info to get out) but:
* fasting glucose = 65mg/dl
* her lab blood = 41mg/dl (with a big meal about 15 min right before)
Questions:
* Vet #2 said that lab glucose isn't realiable because the glucose is
consumed (?) by othre cells in the sample, so it is often lower. I
know with diabetes, home glucometers may be 15% off from lab tests.
Does anyone know if it's the same ratio with ferrets, or what the
ratio would be?
* Vet #2 ruled out insulinoma because she didn't show the lethargic
signs of an insulinomic ferret that's fasted for 6 hours. In light of
her other symptoms, what do you guys think?
* Would you still go ahead with the pred treatment? Vet #2 is
supposed to be a ferret vet, so I'd assume (and I hate assuming) that
he's familiar with dosing. I know he's got at least two insulinomic
ferrets under his care right now.
As far as food goes: Yes, she's eaten other kibble in the past. I
took her from a family member who was feeding her cat food at first,
then a lower quality ferret kibble. I don't think it's the batch of
food, because my two year old girl is still eating the kibble fine.
My response to baby food wasn't so much impassioned opinion as it was
fear. She's been on the gerber/gravy mix for more than a week now.
This whole thing is very confusing, and reminds me a bit of the
debates over human nutrition (eggs are good, eggs are bad, eggs are
good...).
On the first day of this (07/04) I went out and bought several
different types of foods, including Marshall Farms, and 8-in-1
semi-moist, and a new bag of TFAP (just incase the big bag was bad, my
other little girl will eat ANYTHING, so I just wanted to make sure).
She took a piece of MF food, and kind of ate it, but wouldn't take the
initiative to eat it on her own.
Thanks for taking the time to respond. You guys do this out of the
kindness of your hearts, and I really appreciate all the info and the
effort.

PS: Let me appologize for using (<) as bullets earlier. I tried to
make the post as readable as possible, but had forgotten that many
clients use those brackets as quotes. Sorry 'bout that. I promise I
won't do that again :)
