Thanks, Dale for your help. Hope you ferret is getting better and better!
Two of my other ferrets have come down with diarrhea and vomiting. One has been at the vets over the weekend. The eldest ferret is not getting better. I had taken him to see a different vet and she gave me a mixture of meds that when I read the labels, shouldn't be mixed (one shouldn't be used with antibiotics, which he is on, and another shouldn't be used if there is a presence of gastrointestinal problems). So I'm not happy! I've got another appt this afternoon to try and clear things up.
Oscar is currently on ceporex (cefalexin Ph Eur), sucralfate, and tagamet. He has not gotten better for the past 5 days. I've force fed him so he's not losing too much weight and he gets electrolytes. Should I try and request the typical treatment of amoxicillin/biaxin to replace the ceporex? He's so lethargic - it's breaking my heart. Any advice? Is this because the antibiotics aren't working?
Also, everytime I give him tagamet his mouth starts to bleed. Anyone with experience with this?
Thanks so much!
Elizabeth
