Subject: [ferrethealth] new sick kit, others now have it; now dog too?
I have posted here a couple times about us bringing in a new kit back in early April only to find that she was sick, and that she got our other two sick within 4-6 weeks.
We still don't have a clue as to what it is we are fighting. The illness seemed to clear up completely in one of the fuzzys and almost completely after a course of Biaxin/Amox/Pred followed by Albon/Pred, but within 2 weeks all three were back to where they were back in early June (no frank blood thought). We are 6 days in on another course of Albon/Pred but things remain unchanged.
We came home today and found that the dog had very bad diarrhea w/ frank blood. (Dog) Vet says the pup has a tummy bug (elevated white count.)
It seems like it took a long time for this to be the same bug... but the ferret and the pup are not together or in the same areas very much at all, so I guess its possible, and we have been sanitizing the areas where the ferrets roam a couple of times a week. It took 4-6 weeks for it to show up in earnest in the other two ferrets and they were with the sick kit 24/7.
So, what do you think... common between dogs and fuzzys are giardia, coccidia, and what else?
Pup is neg (a single time) for giardia and coccidia; Ferrets are neg two times for giardia, and a many multiple times for oocysts.
Thanks.
