I sent an expanded version of this directly to you with three paid ferret consultants who also have produced ferret references in case your vet wants that reassurance.

RE: [ferrethealth] RE: Help! Dying ferret?

Three approaches that we all used to use in the days back before there were any ferret vets in the area so that we could have both expert care and ferrets learning:

1. Consultants. There are multiple vets who could consult. You and your vet can find a number in the vet listings given.

2. Give or loan your vet texts and/or vet videos:
Dr. Karen Purcell, _Essentials of Ferrets, a Guide for Practioners, 2nd Edition_ (as well as co-authoring a new vet text not yet released with Dr. Bruce Williams)
Dr. Katherine Quesenberry who in part authored and otherwise edited both the first and second editions of _Ferrets, Rabbits, and Rodents, Clinical Surgery and Medicine_
Dr. James Fox _Biology and Diseases of the Ferret, second edition_
Dr. Debbie Kemmerer-Cottrell, who has videos to teach vets
Dr. Charles Weiss used to so maybe a used one can be found through Amazon or another source

Looking in Amazon.com some of these are available in used form. It appears that there are at least 10 pages of various ferret books alone so be sure to use the page advance at the bottom of the page. Notice that most of those books are NOT vet texts so look for the titles I mention. They also appear to have the first edition of John Lewington's vet text _Ferret Husbandry, Medicine, and Surgery_. The second edition of that is expected to be released in Oct. or Nov.

3. By train you should be able to get into Manhattan, right? We used to put a carrier into a cloth tote with cloth over it so there was air exchange and use the train and then a cab to go into the AMC when we needed to. It is pricey but they certainly were capable.
