Subject: [ferrethealth] How to read and write from the FHL website
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

I am sending this from the web at about 12:30 EST US because the webmail is working so much more rapidly than sending mail by email or reading by email. Smartgroups is having trouble with a server so to avoid delays it pays to read and post on the website.

This is very simple, really, and the navigation options make it easy to catch up on anything forgotten or missed.

First, go to the FHL homepage:
http://www.smartgroups.com/groups/ferrethealth

Before we get to messages let's look at some other features which are for use SPECIFICALLY for ferret health needs (because of space limitations).

There are 2 pages of Files. You will find a page "go to" button with arrows both at the top and the bottom of File pages so that you can see what is in each and when it was entered.

There are photo albums. Notice that these are ONLY for ferret health photos and that we want people to keep the sizes manageable, please. Space for these photos is limited and we have had three situations now in which space got used up by photos that were not ferret health ones. Twice that made it impossible for people who NEEDED to post health photos to get help to do so. So, we have to let in only ferret health photos.

You'll see a Links location.

You will also notice the word "Message" and we'll go there soon, but first let's look at a little more. Notice that under the x-ray photo that there are links both to current discussions and to the FHL Archives. Just click on the bold print. So, you have way to rapidly get to the archives, and you have two ways on the homepage to reach the discussions: by using that bold print or by using the menu that is on your left to click them open.

If you continue down the page you will find many groups particulars such as activity levels, number of members (1947 at 9 minutes past noon Eastern Standard Time, Thursday, Aug. 31st), how to subscribe and how to unsubscribe, etc.

Okay, if you click the Bold Print link to discussions it will send you to the list by date; whereas clicking "message" in the menu send you to the discussions. but never fear! It is easy as can be to change back and forth between list by date or by discussion, and you will soon find yourself doing it regularly: there is a set of icons right near the top of the discussion page that you just need to click on to do so.

But, let's say that you are reading a post in the "by date" choice and you are curious about past posts in the discussion. Do you have to go back to the list to change? No. Click open any post which already has more than one post using that identical subject line and at the top of the message it will subject, the date the Smartgroups computer processed it, its number, and then the poster's name, icons, and View Discussion followed by how many posts have used that same subject line. If you click on
View Discussion
you will see all of the posts sent to Smartgroups which have used that same subject line, oldest first. One thing to remember: some people don't get very specific in their subject lines so look at the date because some subject lines come up in multiple discussions.

Let's say that you want to send a note directly to the poster through Smartgroups, You want to reply to the list with a post that contains health information, or you want to post a new topic from the website.

Easy as can be!

For a reply that goes only to the poster click on the poster's name in the message header.

For a public post replying to that message then click the reply arrow.

To post a new message click the "Write Message" icon near the top of the page.

Then it is just a matter or writing and hitting send.
