You should be fine. If you look at the back of the FerretLax, you will see it's using the same thing. I've been using it for years- Walgreens' 100% Pure Petroleum Jelly-and feel comfortable doing so. :) (So has my prevet friend on her ferrets.)
For myself, I just scoop out what I plan to use and splash with a little pure cod liver oil. (Note: pure cod liver oil needs to be refridgerated so you can't mix it in the jar of jelly and let it sit out on the shelf for storage.)
After a while, mine didn't even need that. They licked the jelly plain right off the cap. ;>
