Melatek is actually run by a man (Tim) who branched off from the original company who produces the implants. Whether the two companies are legally linked in any way, I don't know. Many of us used to order the little bags of 50 implants from the original company, whose names escapes me at the moment though I'm sure I have paperwork somewhere. Those of us who are registered with Melatek as rescues can still get the bulk implants at a significant discount, not just through SOS or IFC. I order mine directly from Melatek. These are not available to everyone because of sterilization issues. My vet provides sterilized needles (he recycles the microchip needles and has them autoclaved) to insert the implants, a significant savings to my rescue.
