Just a little behind the scenes info:

The best way to have posts appear rapidly and to read post rapidly is to us=
e the website, which is very straightforward and easy to work and play with=
. =

See:
http://ferrethealth.org/archive/SG18169

While there is a chance of a delay by using the website it seems to be mark=
edly reduced from using e-mail. In recent days mails from the website are =
appearing within minutes of moderator's acceptance, and those from known ve=
ts or moderators sent through the website are appearing within minutes of s=
ending.

Yes, there is a problem suffered by all Smartgroups groups but more obvious=
in the large ones because of sheer volume of mail which began during a spa=
m attack on Smartgroups when Wanadoo owned it. Some have postulated that o=
ne server was damaged by the spam attack and some replies to the moderators=
' support list from Smartgroups people seem to agree. Then Smartgroups was=
not repaired while it was on the market. Orange closed the purchase maybe=
a month ago but while it has done some catch-up work there is still the pr=
oblem that anything which uses e-mail seems to stand a risk of encountering=
delays which can last for days. I am one of the moderators here and a mai=
l I sent by email several days ago to test it (because there was no reason =
for that topic - a startling advance in MRI technology which could mean MRI=
machines costing only a few thousand dollars in a decade or maybe even les=
s so inexpensive enough in the foreseeable future for regular veterinary us=
e -- to be timely, so I figured I'd put in something of interest to vets in=
stead of a note saying "test").

All of the free hosting services are having damage from spam attacks. Smar=
tgroups traditionally tried to play catch-up. Yahoo dumps large amounts of=
mail of all types when it is hit, some others leave it largely to the mode=
rators. There simply is no perfect solution that is also free and contains=
many features, but addressing that in any laborious fashion is probably be=
st left until after several things, including the Senate vote on Net Neutra=
lity because if the Senate also votes against Net Neutrality like the House=
did it might become difficult or even impossible to provide free volunteer=
services like the FHL, anyway, because when Net Neutrality (which provides=
access that is not dependent on the amount of money paid) goes away there =
is so much that could change that it is impossible at this time to predict =
the outcomes and how those will change over time.
