Subject: [ferrethealth] RE: FERRET CANT KEEP ANYTHING DOWN HELP!
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

Several things come to mind with your little ferret.

Hairballs can cause both a nasty stool (it will commonly look like a melted hershey kiss) due to stomach irritation, along with vomiting as it can act as a blockage, either partial or total.

Another thing that I would be very suspicious of would be megaE due to the white 'spit' being brought up. This is generally a condition common to males, but females can and do get it. The sounds you describe are very classic for megaE. Try feeding her a liquid food with her standing in an upright position to see if it helps move her food into her stomach and help her keep her food down. The liquid food will also help with dehydration. Also, Reglan is a med that would typically be used with megaE to help push her food through her, but shouldn't be used if there is any kind of obstruction.

If you need more info on MegaE let me know.

She showed very weird stool and has always had good stool... That following morning she threw up and it looked like spit. She pooped some nasty stuff when they took her blood and ...Then she starts vomiting and making frightening noises. I hear a rattling noise. I can hear her stomach gargling. I try to comfort her. The vomiting stops. She calms down. Now she is receiving reglan, pepcid shot and antibiotics via a needle. We're hoping today thursday she will be able to receive her meds orally. They have diagnosed her with irritable bowel disease. .
