Subject: [ferrethealth] Update: 6-8 yo female with enlarge spleen
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

I took her to see Dr. [name removed as per rules] here who is our local exotic
specialist. He did an exam and ultrasound. Showed extremely enlarged spleen
with changes in density suggesting tumor with in the spleen.

Palpation of the spleen- he felt a large firm mass in the lower portion of
the spleen.

The rest of her exam was within normal limits. The lost of hind muscle mass
he stated was within limits for her age. He said the size of the spleen
could also be slowing her down and limiting her eating as well as making it
difficult for her to breath. As far as the other mass on the other side he feels
is liver being displaced by the spleen.

His recommendation was ASAP removal of the spleen. I would have had it done
the next day(Friday) but we have really crappy after hours care here...so if
she was not good and stable we would really be in a bind for the weekend.
So he said keep her quiet no jumping or climbing for the weekend.

She is scheduled for surgery Monday to have the spleen removed. I will
update on the outcome. Please keep Loki in your prayers.

Toni
