Subject: [ferrethealth] clavamox dosage needed, vet didn't know
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

I tried to take Fuzzy to the vet today but my vet is out until Wednesday. The other
vet wouldn't see him but he did let me bring in a urine sample here are the results
Color yellow/clear
protein negative
glucose negative
ketones negative
Ph 6
blood trace
Bili negative
Urobil negative
Micro occasional casts
WBC clumbs
No bacteria present

His meds- he is on lupron/melatonin for A/D, prednisolone .4mg of the 15mg/5ml,
diet baby food 1/2 jar with meds or AD .25 of a can free choice natural gold and Evo
ferret kibble.
His symptoms that needed a vet visit started Friday night. He was licking his penis
after urinating. Also, I have been seeing his belly wet with urine quite often over the
last 2 weeks. No crying or anything.
The vet said he couldn't really tell anything by the urine but because he was on Pred
maybe he had a compromised immune system so suggested to put him on
Clavamox. But he didn't know what the dosage should be. He asked me if I could
find that out and I said yes so here I am asking.

Fuzzy weighs 1570 grams, mostly fat from the pred. He is 6 years old ( I think) the
clavamox is 50 mg of amoxicillin and 12.5mg of clavulanic acid as a potassium salt.

The vet thought 0.5 cc 3 times a day sounded right and if I don't get a response
here that is what I will do. That seemed a little high. He also said I could use the
amoxi but since I already have a big bottle of that I can't figure out I opted for the
clavamox. He said use until gone and I have a 15 ml bottle.

I collected 3 cc of urine when he urinated so I think that is an okay output isn't it?
thanks to all, and please answer if you can because I don't want to OD my fert! MJB

[Moderator's Note: AD means Aleutian Disease and ADV means Aleutian Disease
Virus, so I suspect that the abbreviation here was really meant to be the one for
Adrenal Disease which is not AD.]
