Thanks so much to everyone who replied both on and off-list.

I let her go today. She continued to rally but would end up headed for trouble again. I took her in undecided, and still am, but was so afraid we'd have a bad night or that things would get bad while neither vet that knows anything about ferrets would be available. I called a couple of hospitals last night and nobody had an "exotics" vet on-call and couldn't tell me if I'd have any input as to how it was done. I just didn't want to let someone inexperienced do it. I didn't want her to experience any stress, pain, etc. And I didn't want her to be so sick and so miserable before she was helped. She seemed better yesterday afternoon but not late in the evening. This morning she seemed to be breathing better but later was somewhat groggy or out-of-it. She didn't seem to care one bit that we were at the vets, except to raise her head from my shoulder when a woman walked by.

I'm not sure now if the vet used Domitar(sp?) or something that starts with an M, but it was given IM. She felt the needle (I forgot to ask if a brand new one was being used), but hopefully it wasn't too bad. We then took her to the back and masked her with Iso for several minutes, then I asked for one more IM injection before the heart stick, which is when I turned my head. Her heart continued to beat for a few minutes, but the vet said she wasn't still alive. Said the heart was still beating because it was so damaged.

Thanks again to everyone.
