Hi Andrea,
I had a ferret a few years ago who had had both her lower canines removed. She had
stopped eating in the pet store and a girl who did rescue in the area saw her and
bought her and took her to the vet. Her (ferret) had had either a broken lower jaw that
had healed or genetic defect as her lower jaw was crooked and one canine was growing
into the roof of her mouth. She did fine without them and lived to be almost 7.
I got her as a rescue when she was about 3. This won't help you make your decision
but does let you know that they can live without them. Mind you she was just a baby
when she had them removed. (she was born in 1996)
Just my experience.
Lynne and the brats
