I never heard or using Megace (megestrol acetate) in ferrets for this purpose. I took Megace when I was getting chemo, but it was for appetite improvement. It works good for that! I used the liquid and the taste is about like Pepto Bismo so I imagine getting it into a ferret would be difficult. I do believe it is available in pill form.

A better choice, besides fixing the root cause which is the adrenal problem, is Propecia or Proscar. These are the same drug, just different amounts per pill. This has been used MANY times for prostate enlargement in ferrets. Dosage is 1.0 mg per day for 30 days then 0.1 mg daily for maintenance. Lupron would also help.

Go to the FHL archives at

http://ferrethealth.org/archive/search.cgi

and search for propecia or proscar and in the "From line contains" put in AFERRETVET. You'll find tons of info on Propecia and Proscar.
