Subject: Re: [ferrethealth] Ferret needs BOTH upper canines extracted
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

This brings one more thought to mind regarding discolored teeth. If a ferret (or a human) is given certain antibiotics as a small kit (child), it can cause the teeth to discolor. A simple chip to a canine generally won't cause the tooth to discolor unless it's a pretty substantial piece of the tip missing.

Maybe someone knows which antibiotics do this. I do know if a mama gets mastitis while nursing she needs antibiotics, and antibiotics are recommended for the kits as well. (Breeders?)

It may be that some of the discoloration is from antibiotics from younger years, and some is aging.
Just a thought,
Julie
