Hi Alicia, Thanks for the reply. I am confident it is not tarter or plaque. I think I am
describing the color wrong - its more of a brownish/yellowish color, like a slightly
darkened tan color. The vet believes the tooth is dead, and the other one is on its
way (although not as bad as the first one). And that's what leads me to worrying
about infection getting into his system (since the tooth is gone).

His gums are not reddened and touching the teeth and the gums around them
doesnt appear to cause him any pain. No ulcers in his mouth. I've read that even
though the gum isnt reddened, that infection may still be getting into his system? If
that is correct, I worry about that.

I do worry about him becoming depressed/upset/anxious from this, and I wonder
if that will create more of a problem for him. But on the other hand, I've been
hearing so much about keeping good dental health to prevent infection and it
leading to other problems down the line. He's only 4 yrs old. I want him with me
for years and years and years to come. I dont know what is best for him.

Thanks,
Andrea

I really question your vets if this is just a color or staining issue!

Many dental surgeries can leave ferrets depressed .

Now if the tooth is turning a visable brown / or black in color that demnotes nerve
damge and may require extraction. BUT NOT IN ALL CASES!
