Subject: [ferrethealth] Lymphoma in 6-8 yo ferret
To: carpetsharksink@yahoogroups.com, ferrethealth@smartgroups.com
Today I got Loki's test results back on her spleen that was removed 8 days
ago. The results are that the spleen was riddled with lymphoma. The vet has
called Texas A & M vet school to get advice and cost of chemo treatment. His
other suggestion was to start her on Prednislone as soon as she finishes
recovering from surgery.
I am hesitant on the chemo because my vet can not do it. So she would have
to go to Texas A & M and be away from us for 6-9 weeks. There are no other
exotic vets in my area.
Anyone have any suggestions on the longevity of a ferret in this situation?
What can I expect? The vet says she is very healthy right now. All lab
work looks great and she looks great. He says she could have 30 days or 3
yrs!!! But he did say that the spleen is a filter so if the spleen looked so bad
then she has it in other places and most likely in her bones.
I don't want her to suffer in pain. We go back to the vet on Thursday to
have the staples removed. He will have gotten all the info so we can talk about
it and make a decision.
Her weight has gone from 1.6 lbs to 1.4 lbs after surgery so her spleen was
0.2 lbs!!!
