Subject: [ferrethealth] Dehydration
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

The answer will not matter at this point, at least not in my situation, but I'd like to know if looking at and casually touching a ferret's hip can tell you if they are dehydrated. I don't believe this to be correct. I know moist gums or a lack thereof and the pinch test (though not always reliable) are ways to determine whether a ferret is dehydrated or not. Also, do eyes that are half closed indicate dehydration? Always?

I'm pretty sure my little one was dehydrated before she was let go, but the vet said she wasn't, that the only way to tell was by looking at and feeling the hips. Something I've never read or heard before.

Thanks.
