Subject: [ferrethealth] RE: Heart still beating after euthanasia
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

It has been my experience that the heart can continue to beat for a short period of time after the administration of the euthanasia med. The internal organs can continue to function, such as movement in the intestines, for a short period of time and there can be, and often is, muscular twitches of the limbs. It is not at all uncommon for the tail to bottle brush as well.

Regarding dehydration, I've never heard a vet mention the hips nor have I read anywhere to check for dehydration by checking the hips. Just my experience.

Julie

I was told the heart was still beating because it was sick/damaged and not getting the signal (in a timely manner) to stop beating. Is this true?
