Hi Everyone,
OK, I'll try to keep a long story short. I'm an experienced ferret owner for a long time (also a lisc. vet tech) and I need help!
Tonka has had diarrhea for almost 2 months now...I have tried EVERYTHING OTC and Rx and I still can't get it under control. Sometimes it's just water, sometimes birdseed, usually it's explosive and rarely is it normal. He did have giardia (I was actually happy bec. I thought I'd treat him and we'd be done! What was I thinking??) While on flagyl he actually did pretty well...there were many normal stools and a few explosive ones. I just stopped the flagyl 2 days ago and he's exploding again.
Heres the thing: The diarrhea/mucous/liquid actually just leaks out of his butt. Sometimes just picking him up makes it come out. This doesn't happen all the time. But when it does it's pretty bad. He can't sleep or get comfortable (bites the bars of the cage, scratches the cage, licks his butt constantly) Today his leaking lasted almost 2 hrs...his poor butt and hind legs were soaked. I dosed him w/ flagyl and amforol and supportive care and just waited it out. He eats and drinks normally and he's not dehydrated. Bloodwork is fine. His last ultrsound was normal. He does have insulinoma and is on pred and diazoxide. Healthy otherwise. I'll bring him to work w/ me tomorrow but I would love to hear from anyone who has experienced this!
