Subject: [ferrethealth] Immune-Mediated Hemolytic Anemia
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com
I have a 2 year old ferret, Angel, diagnosed with Immune-Mediated Hemolytic Anemia--he was diagnosed around the middle of July 2006. His latest PCV was 15%. The percentage has been as high as 29% and as low as 10%. Angel is currently receiving .70ml of Prednisone and .20ml Pet tinic daily and .50ml Imuran every other day. Angel began taking the Imuran September 15th. He has been on Pred since he was first diagnosed--started at .50ml twice a day, increased to 2ml daily on September 2th, decreased to 1ml daily on September 11th. He has been on his current dose since September 18th. Angel goes back to the vet to have his PCV checked again on September 27th.
I apologize for all the info--onto my question: Anyone else have/had a ferret diagosed with IMHA? I have a wonderful vet who is very ferret knowledgable and I trust him completely. I just wanted to know if anyone else has any insight/comments on a course of treatment and prognosis as I have not been able to find a lot of information on IMHA in ferrets.
Thank you
LISA
