Subject: [ferrethealth] Discomfort passing stool
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

I have a 7.5 year old female that seems to be eating, but is only producing one to two stools in a 24 hour period. She is maintaining her weight, and is actually a little plump.

The stool has a large diameter and seems firm but not dry. I noticed tonight she seemed to be in discomfort while passing it.

I couldn't find anything in the archives on constipation, probably because this normally isn't a problem with ferrets. I'm not even sure if this would be considered constipation.

She gets Chicken gravy twice a day with 0.6 mL (5mg/5mL) pred for low bg and 0.25 mL Amoxidrops because of some gingivitis. She always eats the soft food willingly.

She has kibble available at all times, but I rarely see her eat much dry food.

Any thoughts? My greatest concern is discomfort passing the stool, and determining if there is an underlying health issue causing it.

Thanks,
Julie
