Subject: [ferrethealth] Dealing with loss
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

A month or so ago I joined this group while dealing with a very sick Sissy.=
Unfortunately the root cause of her problems showed itself and we lost he=
r to JL. My vet said I needed to watch Slick and especially Rikki (he and =
Sissy were cagemates for the longest time)for depression and what not. I w=
atched Rikki closely and he and I spent even more time together than in the=
past. Occasionally I still see him going to Sissy's favorite spots. One =
of her favoite toys is now exclusively his. We have introduced a new kit t=
o "the boys" and they took rather quickly to Nina and she to them. However=
, Rikki, (he'll be 1yr. on October 16th) has lost weight. He has grown in =
length as well. His behavior is normal, his stool is normal. I did gradua=
lly change the brand of food they were eating thinking maybe he just didn't=
like it and that has made a difference. I have also supplemented his feed=
ing with Carnivore Care food once per day. How long do these sweet babies =
grieve for loss of one of their pals? Rikki has seen our favorite doctor a=
nd he is healthy, aside from the weight loss. Rikki is definately a "mommi=
es boy". When I come into the room he is right there to be cuddled and pla=
yed with. Anyone have other advise on helping him through this? Is there =
anything else I should watch for with him? Sis and Rik were cage mates for=
6 months before Slick aka the Great White Buffalo joined the family.

Thank you!
Tami Rikki, Slick and Nina
In loveing memory of Sissy.
