The Brown Recluse has never been seen in Northwestern Nevada. Sightings in
California are labeled as 'Urban Legend'.

Not to say one could not have hitched a ride, but our climate in
Northwestern Nevada is not conclusive to the well being of that spider, so
one arriving here would not be long to this world.

With this fact in hand, I would be more inclined to think some other
bite...perhaps a rattlesnake bite with no venom injected (Not uncommon if
the snake has recently fed) or a non venomous snake, could result in a
nasty, flesh 'rotting' episode. The bacteria in a reptile's mouth is very
nasty and hellacious infections have resulted from snake and lizard bites.

Glad Sunshine has recovered!
