Check her sinuses for obstructions, foreign objects, and antibiotic resistant infections.

Check her throat.

Ferrets don't get colds, which are caused by rhinoviruses. They do get influenza (a virus) and bacterial infections, including bacterial sinus infections. Bacterial infections respond to antibiotics but some can be antibiotic resistant, and there can be reinfection. Years ago Ruffle and I traded back and forth a bad antibiotic resistant sinus infection for three months.

It would make great sense to image her chest, too. Look at lungs, heart, and the general area. Ferrets can even sound normal with severe pneumonia and plurisy like our Meeteetse did, but the x-ray shows what is going on.

We tried her on baytril and 2 other antibiotics, but she didn't respond to any of these and she had further investigations including xrays and ultrasounds. She also had surgery to remove a discoloured canine incase that was causing problems. The tests all came back negative and her lungs are reported to be clear. However, depending on the day, she will have rattly breathing and may sneeze v. occasionally heavily in order to clear her nose. Apart from this honky breathing she seems to be a very bright energetic little girl.
