Well, that is a position a very large number of us have been in at one point or another, and there simply is NO replacement for vet care.
First you need to go to the lists of ferret vets and see if one is near you.
You need to also post where you are located so that list members who may know vets in your area can reply.
Most people DO need to travel for vet care for ferrets. We certainly are among those who do.
If there is no one locally enough then it is possible to arrange to help teach a local vet.
There are several ways to do this.
You can arrange for your vet to use consultants. Some vets such as Dr. Karen Purcell, the author of the AHA's vet text on ferrets work largely as consultants. Again, knowing your location will hep on that score, though certainly many of us have had vets use long distance consultation.
You can provide your vet with ferret vet texts, ferret vet videos, and other materials. So many of us have done exactly this at various times.
There is NO replacement for vet care, though, and when it is needed -- and from your description it is needed and rapidly needed -- there is no replacement for veterinary care, and that is the bottom line, I am afraid.
