Subject: [ferrethealth] Flea Infestation
To: <ferrethealth@smartgroups.com>

We helped a local police department by taking in a very, very abused ferret.
What I need to know is how long does it take for a flea infestation to kill
a ferret. This poor little guy was an older ferret living in a cage with no
water or food and his cage mate was found dead (starvation and fleas). I can
put up pictures if it would help at all. I would like to be able to add this
information to our testimony to help in the prosecution of this person.
This poor little fella didn't make it and died from anemia (I don't think
there was a drop of blood left in him when we got him)! I have been
sheltering since the early 90's and have never, ever seen so many fleas
(adults) on one animal in my life and hope that I never have to again! He
was a DEW patterned and there were spots on him that were completely black
from the fleas (not the flea dirt, but fleas)!

Thanks for any assistance,

The second is blurry in the larger mode and the third somewhat so, so the smaller
versions of those may work better for you. The first shows up well in both small
and larger versions. They are all heartbreaking. I hope someone has the info
needed to help.]
