Subject: [ferrethealth] RE: Question for those who feed Innova Evo Ferretfood
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

I have been feeding my two 10 mon olds Innova Evo Feline (I haven't gotten the Evo
ferret yet..not sure if I will) ever since I obtained them (at 3 mon). They have always
had soft stool, but always formed. The only time they have had runny stool was
when I give them dehydrated chicken treats (it is 100% chicken...I order it online
from theferretstore.com). their stool becomes quite runny upon eating this, and
VERY stinky. Both of my kids have had stool samples analyzed and have always
come back normal. I have been told by some that this may be because their bodies
are not acclimated to absorbing so much protein, so their digestive tracks get a
little overwhelmed, hence the diarrhea. I should add that ferrets I have owned in the
past were originally fed regular Innova Feline (less total protein than Evo, with
carbs), then switched to Innova Evo Feline when it came out here in stores. Prior to
Evo they had the soft, but formed stool. Upon switching to Evo, their stools became
much runnier. Again, this supports the hypothesis that their bodies were not
acclimated to the higher amounts of protein. Something worth considering. I am a
the point now that I don't necessarily get freaked out about runny stool per se...I
just look for changes in the ordinary. I can do this given I have had these guys since
very young, and have had stool samples run to show me what "normal" looks like for
them with the diet they recieve.

Best of luck to you.
