Subject: [ferrethealth] Diet after insulinoma surgery
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com
I have had a look in the archives but couldn't find anything...
My 4 1/2 year old Spike had a sort of emergency insulinoma surgery today. My vet found a nodule and debulked the pancreas around the nodule, nodule and tissue are being sent to the lab.
My vet has given me Hill's i/d to feed for 3 days after surgery. I'm wondering what to do in case he doesn't like it? Does he need a prescription diet or could I feed chicken breast? He is used to meat. I'll liquidise the i/d but am worried he'll refuse it.
When is the best time to start feeding again? Surgery was finished at 3.30 p.m. so is tomorrow morning okay or should I wait 24 hours? This is the first insulinoma surgery I've had done (well, the first ferret was put to sleep because he was riddled with tumours) so I'm a little nervous as to what to expect.
