Subject: [ferrethealth] insulinoma/adrenal symptoms-leg weakness

My ferret Mia is 1.2 lb albino rescue that I believe is approximatly 6.5 ye=
ars old. She has been with me almost three years. When she came to me she=
had hair loss and I put her on melatonin implants. She gets them every th=
ree months. About two months ago she developed insulinoma symptoms. She w=
ent into a diabetic coma and her glocose screening confirmed very low blood=
sugar. She has now been on predlisone, 1/2 tab a night with gerber chicke=
n baby food aqnd this is clearly helping her a lot. Her apetite is good an=
d she has not had another crash since I started her on pred. She has put o=
n weight and although she sleeps more, she still interacts with me. She ha=
s never been a very social ferret and since my Tasha died in March, she pre=
tty much stays to herself except when sleeping. Anway, she seems comfortab=
le, but her legs are a problem. They are weak and she often splays or even=
does the splits. She has a hard time getting both legs under her to sit. =
Her legs don't bend very well anymore and it is hard for her to ambulate s=
ometimes, although she tries hard. I have her on antioxidant supplements a=
nd add chicken soup mix to my softened ferret gruel that I make. Is there =
anyone who can suggest something to do to make her legs a little stronger. =
I do do some stretches with her and that seems to help some. thanks for a=
ny suggestions.
