I have considered the hairball problem but this has been ruled out and they are all treated regularly with hairball rememdy. This is not a clearing the throat sound, it is an obstructed airway sound. Anybody who has heard a human makes the sound will know the difference immediately.

Sammy's BG has been normally okay. I will be checking it this week on a daily basis to get an idea if it is normal and this was just low due to not eating on Saturday. He does get a/d and quality kibble, but does not care for raw or cooked meat.

The reason I want to check it is because I have a vet who sees one nasty poop and cries "IBD" and wants to start him on Imuran or one low BG and cries "insulinoma" and wants to start proglycem. Instead of a recommendation about what is betterfor a specific condition, or what he thinks is a proper course of treatment, I get a very vague, "We could do that" when I ask any questions. While I am not stupid, I am also not a vet and go to a vet because I value that input - not because I am trying to find someone to just dispense what I want. There is nothing wrong with those drugs, but I think I want a little more than one instance of anything to make a diagnosis that will require daily and permanent medicating. I do have the appropriate meds at home, but want to get the facts straight first.

You are absolutely correct when you say that insulinoma would show those symptoms, I agree. I believe he probably is insulinomic, but I want to get the BG readings over a couple of days before crying wolf! Thank you so much for the input. I really appreciate your comments. This is the kind of information that would be quite helpful if I had not already considered them.
