Subject: [ferrethealth] RE: Honking like a goose
To: ferrethealth@smartgroups.com

Renee, one far-out thought. My Mojo used to make a noise that could be described this way. In his case, though, it started quiet and only grew to a louder, honking sound towards the end of his life, and this noise was only heard a couple of times then.

Anywya, backing up, one of the diagnostics we did pretty early on, after standard things like blood work and rads weren't useful, was a trans-tracheal wash. Bascially they inject a little sterile saline into the lungs, the ferret coughs, and they suck it back up to analyze. His came back "inflammation," I think, and his chest rads just had this fuzzy ground-glass appearance. Nothing really notable. We treated as if for pneumonia for a long time.

Mojo felt sick, though, and eventually was just miserable. Finally he even had frank blood aspirated from his abdomen after an ultrasound showed a tiny bit of fluid. I had him put to sleep and was dismayed when the gross necropsy showed no big smoking gun. But the pathology came back, and he had lymphoma in most organs, notably the lungs. I think this is what caused his weird noises all along.

:( I doubt this is the case with your guy, but just one more story to add to the thread.
