Very interesting speculations.

The hypothesis should be relatively easy to test with ferrets & polecats. Is there any information on the lifespans of wild polecat kits that have been raised in captivity, as compared to the lifespans of domesticated ferrets? Have there been studies on the lifespans of wild polecats (no doubt, few die of old age)? I've heard repeated references to crossing domesticated ferrets with wild polecats. What about the lifespans of the hybrids?
