Subject: [ferrethealth] red clover

Red clover itself is packed with nutrients, but it is also a
phytoestrogen (which is why it is under study as an alternative for
hormonal replacement therapy for menopausal women) so if your ferret
has any adrenal problems starting it might increase the negative
effects of an already existing too high hormonal levels. (Both
genders have the estrogens and the androgens (The latter includes
testosterone.) The estrogens are older hormones and already have
over a hundred known functions including proper brain function, and
the androgens already have over a dozen known functions including
muscle retention. These hormones are not only produced by
reproductive tissue. They are made by the adrenals which is how they
figure into adrenal disease, and other tissues like fat can make
some. They are similar enough that body alters the hormones back and
forth into each other as they are needed.)

In the Links section of the FHL are two locations where people can
look up the pluses and minuses of certain herbs. Most (but not all)
of the info is human med info, though certain things will carry
generally.

Within the archives are some posts that also contain links to some
excellent resources that need membership. Here are some resources I
find just on a quick archives search:

University of Maryland Medical Center alternative med site

Plants for a Future

Notice that MULTIPLE HERBS have already been looked up and are in the
archives.

Also, the FML used to have a member, Mary, who had formally studied
herbalism and she carried info about some to the FML so those
archives can also be useful (the search link is atop the long column
of past digests):
