Subject: [ferrethealth] Blood in Urine, No Bacterial Growth
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Greetings:

I have a 3-4 year old ferret I have recently taken in. It is unknown
what breeder this ferret is from and could possibly from a back yard
breeder, as she has no tattoos.=20

A few weeks ago, I noticed she had what looked like dried blood
around her vulva. I had her use the bathroom on the floor and
collected some urine and used a MultiStix and it showed a large
amount of blood (hemolyzed). I contacted my vet and he gave me a
prescription for Clavimox. We gave Clavimox for 10 days and cleaned
her vulva daily, but there was still the material around her vulva.=20
I checked her urine and again it indicated blood.

I took her to the vet and he was able to collect some urine directly
into a container. He used a test strip and it indicated blood in the
urine. He then sent the urine to a lab to have it cultured. The
results came back that there was no bacterial growth in her urine.

We are looking to do explorative surgery, but I would like to know if
anyone has had any similar situations or any ideas. The vet said we
will be looking for any uterus/ovarian tissue left, adrenal glands,
and kidneys. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,
Leann
