Subject: [ferrethealth] BG home testing
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Two things about home testing for BG. To get an idea of how accurate your meter is you might have a BG test done by your vet and at the very same time test on your meter also to see what, if any, difference you find in the readings.

I have never been able to get enough blood poking a foot pad and I can not/will not cut a nail short enough to make someone bleed, but someone on the FML, and forgive me for not remember who, but she taught me to poke the end of the tail. So I shaved a bald spot on Ricky's tail and by poking and collecting there I was able to get a big enough drop for a reading. Ricky didn't like it and I still felt horrible poking him, but I was able to monitor his BG that way.

It sounds like you have experienced some improvement and that is great. The
stool change could simply be attributed to a change in diet. Please do
bring her into the to get to the root of the cause. Lethargy is a sign of many
things, but one common thing is Insulinoma (low blood glucose). If you have
access to a home tester for people with diabetes, you can do a poke on the paw
(harder when there is dehydration) and share the results with us!
