Subject: [ferrethealth] ferrets with colitis?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

HELP, I am worried. I have 2 ferrets that intermittently have
colitis? They will have bouts of a squirting of clear musousy poops
with blood in it. I have brought them to my vets a couple times for
this and one went in today because he has had it for a couple days. I
gave him Kaopectate to help quiet it down and all it did was make it
normal colored but it stunk and was liquid, he did it right in the
exam room. Right now they both are on Sulfatrim to help quiet down
their colitis (just started dosing tonight). Does this sound like a
correct diagnosis? Is this the right treatment for them? I give them
a soup made of chicken or turkey(whichever is on sale) and make a huge
batch of soup something like the chicken gravy except there is only
the chicken or turkey and the same amount of softened kibble ground
and proccessed with some Nupro ferret supplement and flax seed. I do
not know if maybe this turkey mix is not agreeing with them at this
time or what is going on. They just lost a cagemate last week due to
lymphoma, he was euthenized during surgery as he was loaded with
tumors and one huge one that was not removable.
