Subject: [ferrethealth] Mouth ulcers
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

If a helicobacter infection gets severe enough, the ferret can/will
get one or more ulceration in the top of the mouth. Carafate liquid
will coat these ulcerations as well as any downstream. You will
actually be able to see the medication cling to the ulceration and act
as a scab to seal and protect it. We treat using 14 days of Biaxin
and Amoxi. I usually put the ferret on a soft diet during treatment.

As mentioned, kidney issues can cause mouth ulcers, too, however it
has been my experience that helicobacter infection is much more common
than kidney issues that get bad enough to cause mouth ulcers. You
should be able to identify or rule out kidney disease pretty easily.
