Subject: Re: [ferrethealth] safe potting soil for dig box?
To: <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

Instead of a dig box filled with potting soil, using regular rice, NOT THE MINUTE RICE, or cornstarch peanuts. They are the peanuts that dissolve in water. Using dirt, potting soil COULD lead to respiratory problems from mold or unknown contaminates in that soil, besides having a dirty ferret. Being in a northern climate no baths are given during the winter as a precaution against colds.
Cornstarch packing peanuts are available on Ebay and some ferret retailers. Also plastic easter eggs can be added to the dig box but glue the eggs closed to prevent chewing on the plastic.
Hope this helps you.
