Metronidazole does come in injectible form at a concentration of
5mg/ml for veterinary use (don't know how it comes for human use). As
far as I know, and I could be wrong, the injectible form is to be used
only IV over 15 minutes minimum, not SC or IM or PO. I don't know
anything about birds so don't know how they would have administered it
to the bird. Unless the ferret or cat or dog is in a hospital setting
with an IV catheter in place, seems the best route is oral even if you
end up wearing half of it (I had a ferret who actually liked the
stuff...he was a bit of an anomoly).
