Nelli, this is so newly under study with few enough animals involved that many
questions remain.

I am hoping to get info after the December talk by the European (Spanish and
German) veterinary research team which has been looking at it for 2 years and
first described it in the literature to see if I can learn more to pass along.
Whether I will succeed in getting that info, I don't know. Meanwhile, I am sure
that others will also be trying and will be attending conferences which will give
the best chances of knowing more.

As well as that team and researchers in the U.S., I know that some French
researchers looked or are looking at it, but I do not know if others also have or
are.

My own questions are similar to yours:

Is it derived from FIP or ECE?
(These are related coronaviruses. EGE, a mink GI coronavirus is also related.)

Is it the same as FIP?

(The last two questions will likely be answered by Dr. Kiupel's group, I suspect, since they
are the experts on the molecular structure of ECE.)

If it is the same as FIP can it be caught from infected cats?
Are there ferrets with silent or mild infections?

How infectious is it?

What is the prognosis when an infection is not mild?
(So far no one has mentioned survivors to me, but that means next to nothing
at this point in how little I know.)

What may be worth trying for a medical approach in ferrets?

Has anything already been eliminated as a possible medical approach in
ferrets?

There is a lot to learn. It is still early days.
