My personal experience has been positive: I have used pumpkin (plain, canned puree) in my duck soup for over 6 years, per my very ferret savvy vet's recommendation when 3 of mine developed IBD after an ECE epidemic (early on, before we even knew what we were dealing with). Two had insulinoma, so I was concerned about the sugars in pumpkin. My vet indicated that although pumpkin has some sugar, it should be fine, even for the ones with insulinoma (their insulinoma differs from human insulinoma). It worked out O.K., as none of mine have ever had a low blood sugar crisis, and none that did not already have insulinoma developed it ... (I have had about 20 ferrets total, as many as 9 at that time, all but 2 adopted from rescues, various ages and various stages of health). One of my ferret buddies had five, and she sometimes gave them straight pumpkin as a treat, as well, and none of hers developed insulinoma. Not definitive, but our fuzzies did well .... Jd
