Subject: Re: [ferrethealth] Considering Surgery For Insulinoma
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hi Jeff,

Sorry I can't help you on a name of a vet but I do
have some experience with insulinoma. My Casper had it
for over a year before it finally took it's toll last
Dec. The first med that Casper was put on was
pediapred and you don't list that in your post as one
Neo is on. I am not familiar with the other drug but
Casper did get Proglycem towards the end of his
disease. He did have a partial pancreatectomy when he
was first diagnosed and then was given pediapred for a
little over a year before it no longer held his BG, at
that point I asked to try Proglycem and my vet agreed.
She didn't recommend it though because she said it
usually doesn't help but when I posted on ferret
health list and also Miami Ferret the responses I got
were that it does help in some cases and you don't
know unless you try, so I did. And I think it helped
him for a short while. Surgery is your best first
option though if you can find a surgeon that you
trust. So..good luck with that, hopefully you will
find one and quickly. Will keep Neo in my prayers and
you too, because I have been there and I know how
helpless you feel and a little frantic too, trying to
help your baby.

Take care,
Ann
