We usually use generic Prednisolone.

Do check to see if your pills are Prednisolone or Prednisone.

If the liver is at all compromised or becomes at all compromised Prednisone winds up not
working as well as Prednisolone. This is because the liver processes Prednisone to
Prednisolone before the body can use it, but a compromised liver doesn't always do that
well enough. In fact, we even had one for whom Prednisone may as well have been water
but Prednisolone worked wonderfully for his IBD and for irritation related to his GI
malformations.

I like that you specifically mentioned that the tablets are scored.

Within the U.S. scored tablets or caplets have the medicine evenly distributed so they can
be cut with confidence that one piece will underdose and another overdose.

If the pill or caplet is not scored then there is that risk, so for meds like that the med
needs to be crushed, carefully and throughly mixed and then measured, or if it one that
can be given and stored with water, or one that be given with oil (not all meds can be
given with either so a pharmacist needs to give info, and if the med is unusual enough the
experts at the lab of the company which makes it might need to -- having been in that
position twice)the powder can be mixed with a small amount of the appropriate fluid. If
the med can be given and stored with food (again, ask the medication experts) then
mixing it throughly with a small amount of food and giving the doses that way is possible.
Take into account how long the substrate will stay fresh enough, and ask, too, if it needs
protection from light and if this is a med to refrigerate or not because that also will
influence choices.

Tip: for meds that need protection from light keeping an old, well washed Ovaltine bottle
around can be very useful. We have also used aluminum foil for that.
