Prednisone or Prednisolone typically has very few side effects in ferrets
compared to humans. In ferrets who are on it for a very extended time
it can result in fur loss and even muscle loss. Short term in ferrets it
can increase appetite and for some it can worsen or possibly cause
ulcers so it needs to be given with food. Another thing that you can do
to decrease this risk is to give the standard liquid Carafate prep that
every pharmacy carries, but give it at least a half hour, preferably longer,
separated from meds, and also do not give Carafate with food but
instead have time between.
There are a lot of posts on this in the archives. Dr. Bruce Williams
tackled the topic many times.
For Diazoxide I don't know offhand. We've never encountered a problem
with it. Let me look in the archives at
http://ferrethealth.org/archive/
http://ferrethealth.org/archive/SG15583
says sometimes fluid retention happens
http://ferrethealth.org/archive/YG12135
mentions two ferrets who may have been allergic to the medication
http://ferrethealth.org/archive/YG872
is about a ferret who had appetite loss
Not having time to check all you'll have to follow-up (maybe at the
library's computers?) but can find 21 messages if you search under
diazoxide and "side effects"
NOT all of which are on-topic (Most weren't but that number is
small.)
and then using the non-generic name :
Proglycem and "side effects"
gets a similar number but some are repeatsso skip the posts in
pink because you have already read them in the other search
You could combine that all in one search, but I think that
sometimes it is easiest to do two and just skip the ones in pink.
