Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Update on Mammary Tumors
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Black Footed Ferrets are pretty prone to primary mammary tumors, but in domestic ferrets
when mammary tumors arise it pays to thing "adrenal disease" because such tumors are
*usually* secondary to adrenal disease in domestic ferrets, so controlling the adrenal disease
is the key factor, same as stopping one form of anemia which can happen secondary to
adrenal disease, or shrinking prostrates that are enlarged secondary to adrenal disease in
ferrets.

So: corrective surgery, or Lupron DEPOT given carefully on schedule and a melatonin implant
are likely to be called for.
